The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is possibly the most challenging undergraduate-level math contest in North America. And my school has received the contest results.
I am still debating whether I want to see it or not - the Putnam is notorious for having 0 median and 0 mode (if not 0 mean since that's pretty much impossible). Fully anticipating (as we euphemistically put it) the "non-negative, non-positive integer" mark, but it'll still be highly depressing to actually see it.
Onto other (if not better) news:
Chemistry midterm results came back, and yes, my mistake was a stupid one (so obvious, in retrospect)...the problem is as follows:
Hyponitrous acid, H2N2O2, is a diprotic acid with pKa1 = 7.05 and pKa2 = 11.40. What is the electroneutrality equation (i.e. charge balance equation) for 0.10 mol L−1 NaHN2O2(aq)?
A. [H3O+] = [HN2O2−] + 2[N2O22−]
B. [H3O+] = [HN2O2−] + 2[N2O22−] + [OH-]
C. 0.10 mol L−1 = [H2N2O2] + [HN2O2−] + [N2O22−]
D. 0.10 mol L−1 + [H3O+] = [HN2O2−] + [N2O22−] + [OH−]
E. 0.10 mol L−1 + [H3O+] = [HN2O2−] + 2[N2O22−] + [OH−]
Ahh, so obvious...*shakes head*
